We've lived in our home for many years. This is the first year we have been chosen by a Red Fox pair to make our back yard their home. They are raising a litter of five pups. I have to admit, I am slightly obsessed with watching them play. They are so cute, exploring, playing and learning how to be a fox.
A widely asked question is, are they in the dog family or the cat family. The answer is neither. They are their own species, The red fox of the U.S. has long been recognized as its own species, Vulpes fulva, but recent studies have indicated it to be of the same species as, or a hybrid of, the old world red fox, Vulpes vulpes.
Looks like I won't have to worry about any mice trying to sneak in the house this year!
